Born in Coventry, Jan studied Fine Art at Coventry College of Art at Durham University. She taught in the South including a part time lectureship at the then West of England college of Art, Bristol. Jan set up her own business doing all kinds of commissions, murals, etc. in churches, pubs and schools including a contract with Courage Breweries for pictorial pub signs, and selling paintings to private collectors.
Jan moved to Scotland in 1973 and began working as a serious painter highly motivated by the Scottish landscape. Jan moved around Scotland a lot, choosing to live in some fairly remote places, all of them beautiful.
From 1978 to 1981 Jan lived in Tobermory and established a strong lasting connection with Mull and Iona. She has had a long association with many Scottish galleries and has exhibited in galleries throughout England including the Bankside Gallery, London.
